I've been immersed in preparing for a keynote speech to 600 school nurses and my topic, "You Do You" made ME pause and think about things. The premise of the speech is when we focus on working with our strengths and tendencies, and choose to spend more time on the things that make us happy (while cutting the things that don't) life is much easier and better. However, the other message (maybe a little more subtle) is that you are okay even when you don't adhere to the norms and do things in unorthodox ways. I feel like more people (young people especially) need to hear that. Society rewards those who fall into line and get with the program, but it also likes outliers. Those of us who see old things in new ways and march to the beat of our own drum. So you do you, go with what works (for you), and don't let others stomp out your individuality (and weirdness, if that's the case) because nobody but you has to live your life so don't settle for less than what you really want and don't compromise your uniqueness to compy with the norms. Live your life, do your thing, and follow your heart and intuition.
